Baker saw the venture, which was deeply in debt, as a floundering enterprise of the church and requested reassignment. Known as “ Father Baker ” and later revered as the “Padre of the Poor,” his life was dedicated to serving the most vulnerable in society. His profound impact continues to resonate through educational, social, and charitable institutions he established, and his legacy endures in both Buffalo and beyond.
