I’ve been one before I was a rapper—all five mugshots .” Two weeks into 2025, JT (full name Jatavia Shakara Johnson) is smiling, flashing a new piercing under her glossy top lip. She’s dressed down in a classic white tank and vintage Levi’s, with long jet-black layers framing her face. Female rapper JT went to jail in 2018 for fraudulent credit card charges. On June 30, she took to Instagram to admit she’d be going to prison after previously being out on bond. JT had served time in a federal prison for aggravated identity theft and she’s revealing to fans how much that experience changed her life. City Girls’ member JT is getting candid about how prison changed her life. Jatavia Johnson, known professionally as JT, 29, started a two-year federal prison sentence back in 2018, at the start of a rising music career. The rapper was arrested and sentenced after being charged and found guilty of aggravated identity theft. What JT ’ s receiving back is a whole lot of love from the fashion community, turning heads and cameras with her taste for transformation, sitting front row at Paris Fashion Week (although her anxiety nearly stopped her from attending the Mugler show). City Girls member JT is one step closer to freedom we’ve learned the rapper is out of prison, and finishing out her sentence in a halfway house. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ. JT has since been transferred to the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, Fla. Records show that JT’s release date is slated for March 21 , 2020 . Check out JT’s photos from her.
