GILBERT, AZ — ABC15 has obtained internal emails from the Mesa Police Department that reference the group known as the " Gilbert Goons ." Currently, multiple police agencies, including the Mesa. Most recently, a string of Facebook and Instagram photo posts showing self-reported Goons holding guns with vaguely threatening captions have been making the rounds online. A victim of a Goons attack in December 2022, Jarnagan used the attack to push for crackdowns on brass knuckles at the Arizona Legislature and in Gilbert , Chandler and Tempe. Within the past year seemingly random and violent attacks have been inflicted on teenagers in the Gilbert area. While the Gilbert Goons have yet to be classified as an official street gang, there is a growing concern amongst parents and authorities. In the Gilbert teen violence cases, the police chief said they will not be filing new gang charges, and in Lord’s murder case, the grand jury already came back with the charges they see fit,.
