John Hope Franklin was an American historian and educator noted for his scholarly reappraisal of the American Civil War era and the importance of the black struggle in shaping modern American identity. He also helped fashion the legal brief that led to the historic Supreme Court decision outlawing. Like many Black intellectuals of the era, Franklin interpreted WWII as a prime indicator of the hypocrisy of American democracy as segregated armies fought to combat racial terror abroad. John Hope Franklin was inducted into the Tulsa Hall of Fame in 1988.
