A jury found Byad Lockett and Darryl Watson guilty in the Sept. 2021 Essex County jail attack against then 21-year-old Jayshawn Boyd, prosecutors announced Wednesday. Jayshawn Boyd , 22, woke up from a coma nearly three months after he was brutally beaten by seven inmates in the ‘gang unit’ in the Essex County Correctional Facility. On September 23 , 2021 , seven inmates attacked Boyd in the common area of the C-pod, beating him unconscious by punching him in the face and stomping on his head. A former detainee at the Essex County Correctional Facility, who was convicted for his participation in a chilling attack on a fellow inmate, was sentenced to 20 years in. Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II announced today that two Essex County jail inmates were convicted of attempted murder for brutally. An Essex County inmate has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempted murder in the jailhouse, officials said. Darryl Watson received the sentence for the beating.
