JT of the City Girls reflected on the impacts of the time she spent incarcerated while speaking as a guest on a recent episode of the Abolition X podcast, hosted by Richie Resheda, Indigo Mateo. While visiting Vic Mensa’s new Abolotix X podcast, JT spoke about the experience and shared how the jail stint affected her life and career in totality. She stated: “I feel like I got better. Going to prison and coming out, gave me more edge, in my music when I rap and in my voice.”. Despite their early success, JT’s career was put on hold when she was sentenced to prison in 2018 for credit card fraud. She served over a year in prison, during which time she continued to write music and stay connected with her fans through letters and phone calls. Female rapper JT went to jail in 2018 for fraudulent credit card charges. On June 30, she took to Instagram to admit she’d be going to prison after previously being out on bond. “I’m always going to be an It girl. I’ve been one before I was a rapper—all five mugshots .” Two weeks into 2025, JT (full name Jatavia Shakara Johnson) is smiling, flashing a new piercing under her glossy top lip. She’s dressed down in a classic white tank and vintage Levi’s, with long jet-black layers framing her face. A person may have served their time, rehabilitated, and rebuilt their life, yet their mugshot remains readily available, potentially hindering their employment prospects, personal relationships, and overall well-being. Miami rap duo City Girls is going to have to put their career on hold for the foreseeable future. Group member JT has reportedly turned herself into authorities for fraudulent credit card. The City Girls were reunited this week when JT , born Jatavia Johnson, was released from jail after spending more than a year behind bars in a Florida prison on credit card fraud charges. She didn’t waste any time in getting back to work, as she unleashed her “First Day Out” frees. JT is out of prison and is keeping it realer than ever. After finishing up her year-long bid, the Miami-bred rapper has been hard at work cooking up new music following her federal-imposed.
