The 2022 Netflix series brought Jeffrey Dahmer back into the public spotlight, turning him into a household name once again. But what if the forensic evidence that led to his conviction doesn’t hold up under scrutiny? For forensic professionals , crime scene photography isn’t about sensationalism; it’s about meticulously documenting the scene to establish a clear and comprehensive record of the events. In the case of Jeffrey Dahmer, the sheer scale of the crimes necessitated an exhaustive photographic record. Tapes of her conversations with Dahmer are weaved throughout the docu-series as he confesses and describes the nature of his crimes, which included murder, necrophilia and cannibalism. In this episode of the Policing Matters podcast, host Jim Dudley speaks with Anne E. Schwartz, the journalist who first reported on the Jeffrey Dahmer case, to recount her experiences during the investigation. In his fridge, they found a severed human head. Police arrested Dahmer on the spot and began searching his apartment. Forensic scientists and detectives uncovered ghastly evidence, like a drum that housed decomposing remains. Dahmer went on to confess to 17 murders.
