When police finally began looking for answers about Johnny Gosch’s disappearance, a chilling timeline of events began to form. Other paperboys who had been working with Gosch that morning said they’d seen him talking to a man in a blue Ford Fairmont around 6 a.m. In the early hours of September 5, 1982, the quiet suburb of West Des Moines, Iowa, was shattered by the disappearance of 12-year-old paperboy Johnny Gosch . What started as a routine day for young Johnny, delivering newspapers with his trusty red wagon, soon turned into one of the most chilling cases of a missing child in American history. Noreen Gosch , of West Des Moines, Iowa, whose 12-year-old son, John David , vanished from his paper route on the morning of Sept. 5, 1982, recalls the sheer “physical pain” of the vigil. What was arguably the weirdest happened in 1990. Noreen Gosch had what must have been the shock of her life when, according to the Los Angeles Times, the body of John E. Gosch was recovered from where he had been dumped in a ditch in Mexico. Noreen’s son, incidentally, was John D. John Walsh , the host of America’s Most Wanted whose son was abducted and murdered in 1981, met multiple times with the Gosches. Walsh, the Gosches, and parents of other missing children together started the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in 1984. DES MOINES, Iowa — On Sept. 5, 1982, Johnny Gosch , 12, was kidnapped while delivering the local Sunday newspaper. Johnny’s father, John Gosch , Sr., would generally accompany him on his route. John David Gosch , a 12-year-old boy, disappeared on September 5, 1982, while on his paper route in West Des Moines, Iowa. His mysterious disappearance has captivated the nation and sparked numerous theories and speculation about what may have happened to him. John David Gosch – known as Johnny – disappeared in 1982 aged just 12 while working as a paper boy, having vanished while completing his paper round. While most accept he was kidnapped, accounts of Johnny reappearing and strange events in the case mean that there are many unanswered questions. On Sunday, September 5, 1982, Johnny got up early but didn’t wake his father up like he usually did.
