Joseph , the often-overlooked apostle of Jesus , holds a unique place in the early Christian narrative. While not as prominently featured as Peter, Paul, or James, his life and ministry offer a fascinating glimpse into the foundational years of the Church. Though Scripture doesn’t give us many details about Joseph ’s life, his role as the earthly father of Jesus is undeniably profound. He was entrusted with the care of God’s Son, not by his own plan, but by God’s divine intervention. The Bible tells us, “The LORD was with Joseph ” (Genesis 39:2), a simple phrase that speaks volumes. When life seems bleak, and circumstances appear unfair, we can cling to the same assurance that there is divine help that upholds us in every low point. What does Joseph have to do with Jesus Christ? Joseph was the eleventh son of Jacob (Israel), and it is prophesied that his descendants will play an essential role in bringing the whole House of Israel to Christ in the latter days. Known as Jesus ’ father on earth, Joseph undertook responsibilities crucial to Jesus ’ upbringing. From taking the family to Egypt to protecting them from King Herod (as narrated in Matthew 2:13-15), his actions provide a picture of bravery and divine trust. Joseph is known as the silent saint . Though his part in the story of Christ is not small—his is the royal line Jesus claims, his the profession Jesus adopts—he does not say a single word in. Joseph , a humble carpenter who lived a quiet life, left no words recorded in Scripture. Yet God chose him to be the earthly father of the Messiah. On this episode of Turning Point, Dr. David Jeremiah takes a closer look at Joseph and the important responsibilities that he accepted as Jesus ’s protector, teacher and role model.
